How a Golf Ball Inspired a Bottle

What inspired Fairways for Days?
Simple: golf runs deep on our team. Several of our designers and brand folks spend weekends chasing birdies (and maybe the occasional lost ball). So this idea was always on the back burner, waiting for its moment to shine.
The vision? Bring Owala’s not-so-traditional energy into the timeless world of golf. We wanted something modern, fresh, and textured. Basically, abstract enough to look cool anywhere, but instantly at home on the green.
“That texture hits the sweet spot—it feels good in your hand, adds grip, and looks just enough like a golf ball without being gimmicky,” said one of our designers.
How did you land on the final look?
To start, we explored everything from topographic maps to classic golf bags, and even toyed with nods to vintage golf video games. We just kept coming back to one thing–the golf ball.
Of course nothing is easy. It turns out getting all those golf dimples to wrap seamlessly around a curved bottle took lots (and lots) of math.
Thankfully, we have an in-house wizard for that—and according to them, “It’s one thing to make dimples look right on a golf ball—but getting them to land cleanly on a tapered bottle? That was a serious design challenge. It’s one of those things you only notice when it’s done wrong—so I’m weirdly proud you don’t notice it at all.”
We printed test after test until the dimples landed perfectly. Can you guess how many dimples are on the Fairways for Days bottle? The final result gave us the tried and true, golf ball bottle that was both abstract and modern.
What tiny detail are you most proud of?
Definitely the dimples. Making them look perfectly round on a tapered bottle was no easy feat — but the payoff is that signature grippy, golf-ball-meets-Owala texture.
Whenever we can find a way to make a design feel as good as it looks, we go for it.
Wait, what’s up with the logo?
Good eye. For Fairways for Days, we couldn’t resist tweaking our usual Owala logo placement. We shifted it to mimic where branding sits on an actual golf ball—and added the little red “1” for extra golf cred. It’s a subtle spin, but true fans know: details matter.
Who is this bottle made for?
Anyone who loves golf (or wants to look like they do). We dropped it around Father’s Day for obvious reasons, but the design’s clean, modern vibe means it’s not just for dads. We have it on good authority that it’s even a favorite among our non-golf teammates at Owala HQ.
Take it to the driving range, the office, or anywhere you want your hydration game to look sharp. As one of our team members put it: “It’s golf-inspired, but not golf-exclusive. Think of it like your one friend who actually makes polos look cool.”
