If there’s one thing Owala and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch have in common, it’s a knack for causing a little mischief—but the fun kind. So when we teamed up with Disney to create our Owala Lilo & Stitch bottles, we knew they had to be equal parts playful, nostalgic, and cute. Here’s your exclusive backstage pass to how these fan-favorite bottles came to life.

Why Lilo & Stitch?

Simple: we wanted to celebrate our favorite dynamic (and mischievous) duo. Because who doesn’t love an adorable alien causing chaos in paradise?

Fun fact: We actually started dreaming this up before the movie’s recent buzz. Thanks to some savvy internal research (and a team full of Disney fans), this little experiment got the green light long before Stitch stole the spotlight again.

How did you decide what the bottles should look like?

We all know Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is iconic, and we wanted to capture the spirit of the characters without being too obvious. Early sketches ranged from bottles covered in Hawaiian motifs to ones featuring Stitch’s mischievous grin front and center. Finding that sweet spot was half the fun.

What was the trickiest design detail?

Blue. So much blue. Finding the perfect Stitch blue was a full-time mission (we’re still dreaming in hex codes). And don’t get us started on Lilo’s iconic leafy dress. We tested multiple finishes before we found one that gave a fun, cartoon feel but stayed true to her style.

Designing these bottles wasn’t just a matter of slapping a Stitch sticker on stainless steel and calling it a day. That’d be far too easy, right? It actually took several rounds of redesigns (and more debates about the “right” shade of blue than we care to admit). The biggest challenge? Honoring Disney’s beloved characters and Owala’s fun aesthetic.

Working with the Disney team made this a dream—their care for every detail pushed us to make sure every swirl, leaf, and pop of color felt worthy of both brands.

Are there any secret details or Easter eggs?

Each bottle is its own mini tribute:

Stitch Bottle: That perfect blue? Not easy to nail—but worth every swatch test. Subtle accents make it unmistakably Stitch without turning your bottle into a cartoon prop.

Lilo Bottle: Inspired by her iconic dress, but with an Owala twist. We tested multiple finishes for those leafy prints before landing on the final version that felt playful and wearable.

Superfans might notice: The final product was a delicate balance of cartoon fun and grown-up vibes.

Did Owala Really Collaborate with Disney on These Bottles?

Oh, absolutely. Working with Disney’s brand guardians was a highlight. Their passion for Lilo & Stitch (and protecting every pixel of Stitch’s face) made us love the project even more. They really let us be creative while keeping it true to the characters.

Disney adults? Check. Kids discovering Stitch for the first time? Double check. Basically, anyone who wants to bring Disney’s Lilo and Stitch along for the ride—in their backpack, their beach bag, or at their desk.

Were there any behind-the-scenes detours?

Stitch was almost a bigger bottle—but we decided to keep him small and spunky
Lilo’s leaves went through about a dozen finish options
Disney’s stamp of approval? Earned through countless creative check-ins (and zero intergalactic incidents, thank goodness).
