Whether you’re creating the world’s most extra gift or finally putting your favorite dad joke on a water bottle (bold move), our customizer is here to make it happen. Add names, art, slogans, or whatever else your hydrated heart desires.
This guide will walk you through every step—so you can create a bottle you love (and will be the envy of pretty much everyone).
Meet the Owala Customization Tool
It’s pretty magical. With just a few steps, it cranks out custom water bottles with artwork and any words you want (well, almost any… more on that later).
Ready to make something ridiculously cool? You can dive right in by hitting the “Customize” button on any of our product pages or head to the customization page to explore all your options in one place.
Here’s what you can personalize:
- Text: Add names, inside jokes, favorite quotes… you do you
- Art: Upload your latest doodle, company’s logo, or even your dog’s face
- Pre-Made Designs: Our Owala tattoos
You can add one of each type (or just one). The choice is yours!
Once you've picked your bottle, it’s time to choose your customization style. Each one’s a little different—but they’re all awesome.
- Engraving: A subtle and sleek option. Your design gets laser-etched right into the bottle, revealing the stainless steel underneath. Available on all bottles.
- Full-Color Printing: Bright, bold, and printed directly on the surface. Perfect for logos, photos, or anything that screams “look at me.” Available on all bottles except tumblers with handles (40oz Tumbler and FreeSip Tumbler).
- Full Wrap Printing (360° Design): Go big or go all the way around. This option lets your design literally wrap around the whole bottle. It’s like a hug… but with graphics. Available on select bottles: FreeSip 32oz and 40oz, FreeSip Twist, and 24oz Tumbler.

What You Can (and Can’t) Put on Your Bottle
The choices are endless: Owala Tattoos (our own art), your own art or photos, or any names or phrases you want. Don't love our fonts or designs? No problem. You can use free design tools like Canva or Adobe Express to create your own layout. Just follow these file size recommendations to make sure your design turns out. Also, save your file as a PNG with a transparent background for optimal results.
More important design do’s and don’t’s. Follow these Owala design guidelines when creating:
- Do use high-resolution files
- Do keep key elements centered in the safe zone
- Don’t upload copyrighted characters/logos unless you own them—if you think your design was rejected in error, please contact customer service for assistance
- Don’t use small, intricate fonts for engraving—stick to bold and clear
- Don’t forget to spellcheck
- Don’t use inappropriate language
Engraving vs Full-Color Printing

Engraving

- This method etches your design right into the outer coating, revealing the raw stainless steel underneath.
- It’s sleek and durable—which means your art won’t peel, fade, or ghost you.
Full-Color Printing
- For the bold, the colorful, the extra-extra crowd (you know who you are).
- We use permanent ink to apply high-res, full-color designs right onto the bottle’s surface.
- Want to go all the way around? Try our 360° wrap printing option (available on eligible bottles) for a design that doesn’t stop at the edges.
Step-by-Step: How to Customize Your Bottle
This simple, fun process lets you have all the creative power. Ready to get started? Here’s how to make a customized water bottle:
- Pick your champion: We know. Decisions are hard (especially with bottles this good). But whether you pick a FreeSip or a Tumbler, you really can’t go wrong.
- Pick a design style: You’ve got some options—engraving or full-color printing, and sleeve or no sleeve.
- Add art and text: Now’s when you really get to be the artist.
- Adjust sizing and placement: Get everything exactly where you want it.
- Preview: Make sure there aren’t any typos or other issues. This is your masterpiece!
- Add to cart: Time to bring it home. Put it in your cart, pay, and then you’re done. Now all you have to do is wait patiently for it to arrive. Or impatiently. We get it.
Troubleshooting Tips
Here are the most common problems you might run into when creating your personalized water bottles.
- Image not uploading? Check format or resolution.
- Image being accidentally rejected? (like a company logo)? Contact customer service. We’ll get it squared away.
- Can’t bulk order? Unfortunately it’s not available yet and carts are capped at 10 products. But you can sign up to be notified when our bulk orders launch.
Want to Share Your Design with a Friend?
Absolutely perfected your bottle design? Share it with your favorite people. Here’s how:
- Click the “Share” button in the customizer to copy your unique recipe ID.
- Send the link to a friend and they’ll be able to open your exact design. It’s great for gifts, team bottles, or matching moments.
Shipping & Production Time
Luckily, we’re pretty speedy. It should be about 7-14 business days from the time you order for your freshly customized bottle to ship. That being said, the holidays (as you probably know) are kind of a crazy time for shipping. We’d recommend ordering early—it’ll probably take about 3-5 extra business days to get your customized bottle.
Final Tips
- Triple-check spelling and design before ordering. Custom bottles are final sale unless there’s a misprint that’s our bad.
- Hand washing the base of your bottle is highly recommended. Otherwise your artwork could eventually fade and that’d be super sad. The top of the bottle? A-okay to throw in the dishwasher.

Do Owala bottles/tumblers contain lead?
Can I put other beverages in there besides water?
That depends on which product you have.
Stainless Steel FreeSip®, Eastman Tritan™ Plastic, Kids' FreeSip®, Kids' Flip and Flip: Not for use with hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids.
40oz Tumbler, 24oz Tumbler: Holds cold, carbonated, and hot drinks.
SmoothSip®: Holds cold, carbonated, and hot drinks.
NOTE: Always use caution when using with hot drinks. Never use this product with liquids hot enough to scald as hot liquids can cause burns. For further instructions and warnings when using hot or carbonated beverages please see individual product care guides.
Are Owala bottles dishwasher safe?
Stainless Steel
The lids are top-rack dishwasher safe, and the straws can go in the silverware bin. The cups are also technically dishwasher safe as well, but we strongly recommend you hand-wash them to maintain that beautiful finish.
Eastman Tritan™ Plastic
All parts are top-rack dishwasher Safe.
Are Owala bottles microwave safe?
Stainless Steel
The stainless-steel bottles should never be microwaved. And unless you want to end up on one of those “fail videos” on YouTube, we recommend you follow our advice.
Eastman Tritan™ Plastic
While the plastics used in Owala™ brand products are BPA- and phthalate-free, microwaving is strongly discouraged. Like, very strongly discouraged. The leak-proof seal can allow pressure to build up inside the bottle when heating, causing the lid or flip cap to open unexpectedly and spray contents.
So…just don’t go there.
When will my order be delivered?
In general, shipments in the United States take about 3-5 business days from the date of fulfillment. For a more specific answer, use the tracking number that was provided with your receipt.
What is FreeSip® technology?
Other than the neatest thing ever? The average person makes 35,000 decisions a day. That’s a lot. We figured we wouldn’t force you to make a critical decision like whether to buy a bottle with a wide-mouth opening or a straw—so we created the FreeSip® spout—a patented design that combines both.
You now have the freedom to drink from the built-in straw, or the wide-mouth opening. Whatever tickles your fancy. You’re welcome.

What are the instructions for use?
Wash before use. Lid is top-rack dishwasher safe. Hand washing the cup is recommended to preserve its finish. Do not use harsh chemicals (such as bleach, abrasives, etc.).
Do not microwave, freeze, or boil.
Not for use with hot, carbonated, or perishable liquids.
Avoid accidental opening on the bottle by keeping the button free and clear of other objects.
Cover the button with the loop to help avoid accidental pushing of the button.
When opening the bottle, keep fingers away from the recess behind the spout cover.
Warnings
Drinking hot liquids presents a risk of injury.
The straw allows generous amounts of liquid to be drawn suddenly into the mouth from the bottom of the bottle where the temperature of hot liquids is usually higher than it is at the liquid's surface.
Hot, carbonated, and perishable liquids and other contents may build up pressure within the bottle and unexpectedly leak or spray out. Pressurized contents also may cause the spout cover to open rapidly enough to injure fingers positioned in or near the recess behind the spout cover. Always open with caution.
